Hi all
It seems as if Lennart and I are in the same boat. Except I have no paddle :)
(No SuSE 6.1 to fall back on)
I looks as if this confirms Eugen's observation here
http://lists.suse.com/archives/suse-axp/2000-Jan/0030.html
SuSE people, please look into this and consider resolving this problem by
building a new kernel.
Kind regards
Justin
This is my in depth analysis:
I have the following hard drive config
sda1 /dos
sda2 /boot
sda3 swap
sda4 /
sdb1 /usr
immediately after installation, when I chose to restart the system, the screen
went blank except for a blinking cursor at the top of the screen and nothing
else (for a long time) so I cylced the power
If I select 'boot installed system' from linuxrc it does the same
_________________________________
to boot I use the following string to boot
after loading MILO from ARC:
boot sda2:/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda4
The boot proceeds nicely until
...
sym53c8xx: at PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0
sym53c8xx: not initialising, device not supported
scsi : 0 hosts
scsi : detected total
Partition check
request module[block-major-8]::Root fs not mounted
VFS: Cannot open root device
08:04
Kernel panic:VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:04
It seems to me that I might have problem with the scssi drivers?
If I load up linuxrc and load the scssi kernel modules I see
ncr53c8xx: 53c810 detected in the kernel messages
... then
scsi0 : ncr53c8xx -version 3.2a-2
scsi : 1 host
and there are no porblems
