I tried that just now. It loads from CD, but ends with same error.
I've noted that the "install" disk image is the only one not 1.44MB. Is this
an error? Should I try the "install_xx" instead?
(BTW, what are the "aboot_xx" and "install_xx" images? I can find no
descriptions of these.)
Should I perhaps try installing from SRM, using aboot and install, like I
did when I installed 6.1?

How much RAM do you run in this machine ?
Could you try the following: before you go to start-installation in linuxrc,
go to settings -> debug-settings -> force-rootimage
and set this to "no". This will mount the inst-sys from CD instead of
loading it as a ramdisk.
