What is the latest 2.3.x + patches that you have got working?

I have two machines here, a Jensen and a AS400 (Avanti). I am trying
to fix a driver problem for someone, but I get instant hangs (Jensen,
just after kswapd message) or sudden death (Avanti, running make) with
2.3.19.
