As far as I remember correctly, I was able to login with gnome, work for
a while and logout again. This was impossible with KDE. it would lockup
the screen.

Thank god (I'm not the only one). This is hampering the scripts on my
machine --> since the buildoutputs are stored on the nfs server, once
one of those gets a stale NFS handle, then it just stops. Is anybody
investigating this yet? I found that the lockd doesn't show much
activity when I run strace on it, is this normal?
