Thanks for the all dialog about Ethernet on Multia. I fixed the problem by
using the de4x5 module instead of the tulip module. I did this for both
the AlphaStation and the Multia and everything "just worked".

And yes, 192.168.0.0 is a legal network address not a legal node address.
My private LAN uses 192.168.0.1 -> 192.168.0.5 as IP addresses for
machines. 0 and 255 are broadcast addresses so shouldn't be used as
the last byte of the quad in Class C networks.

Thanks again for the help...I will let RH know that the de4x5 driver should
be probed for first. This could probably save a few headaches.
