Heh! Here's another way to do it (this is the easiest way).
Grab AlphaBIOS for Miata, (or switch to it from SRM) see:
http://www.compaq.com/support/files/alphant/firmware/pw433.html
Flash the Miata and then run MILO from AlphaBIOS, see:
http://www.alphalinux.org/faq/alphabios-howto.html
