The symbios 8751 card got me past this mess. It has a 68 pin internal,
a 68 pin external, and a 50 pin internal connector. I ran the wide
disks off the 68 pin internal, then just a plain (totally passive)
adapter from the 50 pin internal to a scsi-2 connector on the back
panel. The narrow tape drive is plugged into it and is terminated.
The farthest wide disk is terminated. Additionally, I can just
daisy-chain a scanner off the tape and move the term to it. Obviously,
the 68 pin external remains unused. This works fine for me on an SX.
