Thank you for your input, I did not think 3.0 would bring lots of performance improvement
(They so much work to get it right, did not think they'd get it fast!)

With .deb packges availables, I' trying them now. (10 secs of install vs 2 hours !)

There is no such release as 2.95.4. You might be thinking of 2.95.3, which is
basically 2.95 + bugfixes.

3.0 will generally be better than its predecessors (especially egcs) even
 though
it is not considered a performance release. BTW the current hopeful thinking
 is
that 3.0 will be released sometime in June.

3.0 has many, many improvements for C++. Consider giving it a try along with
ccc.
