Hi all,
I recently dicovered that the glibc (e.g. 2.1.3) has no alpha support
for showing a backtrace (currently supported are intel, ppc and s390)
This nice feature allows you the get a backtrace in your C/C++ program.
Another useful application is the glibc util catchsegv which prints a
backtrace. For the alpha case the resuly is always "empty".
In my opinion this feature is very useful for debugging reasons e.g. you
can print a backtrace when something goes wrong without running in a
debugger.
Following a statement of one of the glibc maintainers
>> >Number: 2234
>> >Category: libc
>> >Synopsis: backtrace on alpha platform is not working
>
>There's no architecture specific implementation of backtrace yet,
>nobody has contributed one yet.
Unfortunatly i have currently not enough insights on the alpha
architecture to implement it out-of-the-box by myself.
Can some "experienced" alpha hackers give me some pointers or hints
where i can gather information about this topic.
Thanks for any help.
