I tried installing via ARC and a Milo floppy (I successfully installed 5.2
and 6.1 this way before) and ran into the same problem of my CD not being
recognized. Looks like the CD may be bad (I don't know why; I can access
the directories and files on the CD on other Linux and NT boxes). I'll
try downloading a new image and reburning.
One last possibility... I upgraded SRM/AlphaBIOS as recommended before I
began installation. The version is V5.9, the file is
"digitalpw_v72_1.exe (at
http://ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/Alpha/firmware/readmes/digitalpw.html)"
Might there be an issue with the new BIOS version that I don't know about?
Ought I downgrade?
Thanks in advance,
John Clayton
