Hello,
I just had to add my 2 cent's worth.
For 2D performance you cannont go wrong with the Matrox Millenium II
For 3D performance The only thing I have come up with is:
Permedia -3 Create http://www.3dlabs.com
with open GL drivers from metro link http://www.metrolink.com
The issue is that all of the high end graphic cards (GLINT based) top
out at around 90 Millions pixels while a TNT2 tops out at 300 Million.
The difference is the TNT-2 is HIGHLY dependent on cpu speed while
GLINT is a more CPU independent. The second teir choice is a Matrox
G200 board. The only ceaveat is Matrox only released part of the
programming spec for the G200. (Consider how old the board is.....)
So I would (I am planning myself to buy ) a Permedia -3 board when
they start shipping. either 2Q99 or 3Q99. If matrox would release all
of the G400 specs or someone released a commercial OPEN-GL driver I
would more than not buy a G400 but I don't see this happening any time
soon.
The way I seeit the next really good option is to get Metrolink to
support multiple boards and tie together 3 GLINT or etherland Sutherland
boards giving a 300 million speed. Of corse this would eat 3 pci slots.
At this point I refer you to http://www.magma.com for extra PCI slots.
So to sum it up. Your options are limited.
