Hello Kevin;

I've had the same problem with a Mylex DAC960 in a AS1000. The driver
for the DAC960-family is writen by Mr. Zubkov (www.dandelion.com) and
this driver support only Firmware 3.x .
If you want to use the RAID-Controller with linux you have to go a stony
way.

1. open the Machine and search for the serial-number of the DAC960
Is this number D040347 or higher and there are two FlashRom-sockets, the
you ar lucky.
If not, it actually no way to use the DAC960 with Linux

2. Buy the firmware-upgrade for the DAC960 (two chips, about $100) and
build it into
the controller

3. the next problem: there are realy no config-tool for AXP and firmware
3.x
The configtools are developed by DEC an not by Mylex.
You will need a DOS-PC and the DOS-Toos from Mylex

4. Open the AXP and the DOS-PC. Build the DAC960 from the Alpha into the
PC. The DAC960 has to be connected with the SCSI-drives.
Switch on the Alpha. Boot the PC into DOS. Start the Config-Tool
Configure the RAID-Systems
On my system I'v got a strange thing: first i've to configure the RAID5
or i was unable to configure further RAID'S
(on the AS1000 I've 17GB RAID5, 4GB RAID1 and a second 2GB RAID1)

5. Build the DAC 960 back. It should work.

Please mail me if you have further questions.
I hope my english is good enough for understandig.

regards

Wolfgang
