I was seeing similar lockups using netscape under those conditions. What
was the
problem? A badly crimped LVD cable and execessive heat. I never saw
machine checks though. What where the vectors? I too could not get sound
to function under SRM with my isa SB64. If I loaded the sound modules a
few moments later after using sound the machine would lock solid. You
can't compile the drivers into the kernel and use isapnp at the sametime
in a 2.2 kernel because isapnp gets called after the drivers get
loaded... so no device to load the driver and no sound. The solution to
that is to use the latest 2.4 and enable isapnp support in the kernel
and compile sound drivers into the kernel. Been working great for me.
