Booting linux Red Hat install from MILO on XL233 ?

I am new to the list and the Alpha, so this may be a question that has been
covered many times. If so, I apologize. Here goes, I have installed MILO and
am trying to boot the Red Hat installer from the CD with:

MILO> boot sr0:/kernels/generic.gz root=/dev/sr0

all goes well till I get this message:

VFS: Cannot open root device 00:00
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00

Ant suggestions?
