Which kernel version? IIRC 2.2.16 had some boundary bugs with iso9660
support and some directories/files were vanishing. I think when you had
"unlucky" length of a file name. If you do not want to use a new
kernel then this should be possible to find through various linux-kernel
list archives. If this is that bug then it does not has much to do with
Joliet at all.
