Voodoo3 3000 trouble on AlphaServer 3300

I put a 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 in my AlphaServer 3300. The system detects
the card, but during an install of RH6.1 it froze the machine with a white
screen when testing the X server.

I thought Xfree86 3.3.5 had 2D support for the Voodoo cards on Alpha.
Am I wrong? My firmware is 5.5 and I'm booting from SRM of course.

Has anyone gotten the Voodoo cards to work in 2D on AlphaServers?
