2.3.40 and ppp

Subject: 2.3.40 and ppp

Hi there.

I just compiled the 2.3.39 kernel with the patch from alphalinux.org. I
currently have this problem :
I have an ISA 33600 modem, which i operate just fine under 2.2 kernels (all the
way up to 2.2.14). I use kppp, since it seems much easier than minicom-ing and
then pppd-ing. Well, using the "Query modem", i only get replies to the last AT
and even that one is wrong (hangup (+++ATH) instead of the normal one), while
the rest are empty. The first time it tries to connect , it fails right after
dialing and after that i can't even talk to the modem. The same problem arises
even when using minicom: after the first attempt, it always replies with some
mumbo-jumbo numbers, which i can't decipher, since i haven't the modem's
manual. Does anyone out there have any ideas? My machine is an sx164, running
redhat 6.0. (Could it be the isa driver or just another problem? FWIW i did
recompile pppd and stuff...)

Thanks in advance...

Bye,
Nick.
