MILO + 2*SCSI = Headache

Hi

I just upgraded my PC164 a little bit. I put in
a second SCSI-Adapter and put some of the HDs on
it. Now there are 4 HDs on the first and 3 HD plus
one CDROM on the second Adapter.

Now the problem was, that MILO and Linux don't
agree on the scan direction, MILO puts the 3 HD-Chain
first and the 4 HDs behind it. Linux does it the
other way round (where Linux=Redhat6.1 with
Kernel 2.2.13).

So is there an option or so to reverse on of the
two? (It's not very important, just a line like
"boot sdd1:/boot/vmlinux.gz root=/dev/sda1" is
a bit confusing when you know that the kernel is
on the root-partition.)

I'm using two NCR825-based SCSI-Adapters btw.

I tried two Adaptec 2940AU first and those
were detected in the same order by milo and
the kernel, but they wouldn't work reliably.
On heavy load the would lock up the machine
(heavy load=copying a 50GB fs onto a Software-
RAID5 with 7 HDs).

Anybody knows if there's anything to make
the Adaptecs not lock up?

Another problem were the new ext2-options. After
scratching my head and searching the mailinglist
I finally found that creating the root-fs with
"mke2fs -b 1024 -O none /dev/sda1" makes it
readable by milo.

Speaking about milo: I tried the ones on
ftp://genie.ucd.ie/pub/alpha/milo. the newest
one (000115) hung at the "swapping to PALcode
at 0x0"-line, but the next older one works :)

Bye
