If you like floppies, make a boot floppy and a ramdisk and do:

boot dva0 -file vmlinux.gz -flags "root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1 expert text"

Haven't done one lately but you use Linux names in the -flags,
not SRM names.

If you use the cdrom, then root=/dev/scd0. This sort of stuff
should be in the FAQ's on www.alphalinux.org.
