No. It is a Cypress Semiconductor 82C693U that calls itself a
Contaq 82C693. (Note that the AlphaPC 164SX uses the Cypress chip
while the AlphaPC 164LX uses a different chip (CMD646).)

I don't know about the performance but I have accessed an IDE hard drive
on the 164SX under Linux as well as an IDE CD-ROM. Note that this was
using the generic IDE driver. The latest versions of the Linux kernel
are rumored to include support for the Cypress, which would be required
in order to get DMA to work in any case.
