Hello,

I tried to build SSH from source on an AS 200 4/233 will newly installed
RH6.1 using the previously posted advice

> Alpha box (rpm --rebuild ssh-1.2.27-7us.src.rpm)

And I got an error during configure:

checking host system type... alpha-unknown-linux
checking cached information... ok
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc -O2 ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.

I also tried to compile a simple piece of my own code with the result of

gcc -g -Wall mask_new.o -o mask
/usr/bin/ld: cannot open crt1.o: No such file or directory
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I had no clue what crt1.o should be.

I tried to remove and reinstall the egcs/gcc package, no change. Any
ideas?

Thanks,
Petr
