I've noticed this in fvwm and windowmaker (haven't tried any other ones).

Crank up X. Open an X term. Put your mouse over it, and do a
ctrl-right_mouse_button. A resize window should open up, but all I see
is a white box. Note that the functions that appear there DO still work,
you just can't see them.
  Anyone?
