The *absolute* only kernel I got to boot on our PWS 500au (through
milo or SRM) was generic-up-2.2.12.img that I found on the net. None
of the RedHat kernel worked. The generic-up-2.2.12.img couldn't find
the ethernet card, but then I got a .config to compile the standard
2.2.14 kernel - and that worked fine.

One thing I found extremely important: I couldn't use fdisk in any
way, even in the BSD style 'b' menu. It always destroyed my partition
table. I could only write disklabel under Digital Unix and then use
these 'resrvd8' partitions as there are during install. So the first
command I did as root was
  # chmod 0000 `which fdisk`

I went for the SRM boot: I couldn't find a way to create a DOS
partition to copy milo onto my harddisk. But I could write aboot to my
harddisk.

Hope that helps

Clemens
