I also had the init_mm problem that went away when I added:

     kernel/ksyms.c:EXPORT_SYMBOL(init_mm);

Then kwintv did not work very well so I had to hack that too to use the
X11 extension. I used a similar patch that was paublished for xawtv a long
time back to this list.

The xawtv worked with the -remote option.
I dont have my alpha up now so I can give you more details.
