I mean this piece underlined above. This particular card always was
hooked up to a BNC (concentric) cable and never tried on anything else.
I am afraid that this is not a "local" machine or anything I can hack
on but the card works. I do not recall any heroic efforts to get
it on-line.
FWIW - a pcmcia NIC from 3com in a laptop of my wife is also supposed
to detect a kind of a media automatically but it does not. But if
kicked in the right direction it works fine with different cables.

Any complaints from a compiler when you were recompiling on Alpha?
