2.4.4-pre/2.4.3-ac is currently in a strange state. They're chasing down
rwsem if I recall correctly, and the current fix will only compile with
gcc 2.96.
As far as a stable release goes ... errrr???
Redhat shipped their 2.4.2 kernel with 7.1 for x86, based on 2.4.2-ac3,
and with about 100 patches, if I counted them right.
