Ha-ha, It seems, you compiling test by gcc on Alpha.
GCC is very badly optimized for Alpha. If you try DEC/Compaq C, you just
have a fantastic results.
The rate for using gcc 2.95.2 and Compaq C is about 10 times for Compaq C
advantage.
