I've got an APC SmartUPS 1400 powering my Intel Linux server here at work,
and it talks to the server via apcupsd using the same serial cable it came
with (meaning I didn't have to do anything goofy like build one myself).
I may be wrong, but I believe the NDA no longer exists. Check out:
