Sorry, can't help you with mpg123 (haven't tried it), but...

I've got 533LX, SB AWE64, using kernel drivers and it works flawlessly with
2.2.5. (Haven't tried 2.2.6 because of problems reported on the list;
can't get into mirrors for 2.2.7 yet.)
Problem: isapnp doesn't give all of the IO resources for the WaveTable.
See Documentation/sound/AWE32 for what you should put for the extra
channels. BUT, that doc isn't updated for isapnp 1.16- in particular, it's
missing the SIZE parameter for all of the IO resources. So, you have to
revert to a 1.15-style .conf, without the SIZE parameters, but with all 3
resources for the WaveTable. Here's mine: [Tabs converted by my mailer to

(IO 2 (BASE 0x0E20))

Also, I've never been able to get drvmidi to work, but playmidi -a works
just fine.
Does this help? What problems are you having? Just no sound?
