I'll second the latest comment. SCSI can run pretty much over any type of
bus, you just need an adapter at the other end and a driver. ISA, MCA,
VESA, PCI are electrical busses, like IDE or parallel port (maybe not
_quite_ true, but play along). I have a parallel port -> SCSI adaptor,
and it works nice with the SCSI drive I bought it with. I use the real
cables on my own system, I use the parallel one on those without a SCSI
adaptor. It workes better than I hoped, but it can mess with the printer
driver.
