I agree, I've had trouble with adaptec too when I just plugged it in,
and hooked up a drive. Trouble dissapeared when I found out
that the auto-termination didn't work correctly, and set it
manually. Never had trouble since (on a SX164 / RH 5.2) Did not have to
use REAL (active) termination though ...
