I know they're warnings, and I did read the FAQ...but the memory
protection errors aren't normal. Neither is tar/man and other
assorted utilities coredumping :)

2.2.5-ac6? I just went to alphalinux.org and downloaded the latest
kernel, which was labeled 2.2.5. I confirmed that it won't boot on
my system. I was wrong about one thing; the last line printed is MILO
spitting out the kernel version, including source version, build #,
date, time, compiler, user, etc. Since there isn't anything about
system hardware(ie"Alpha PCI BIOS32 revision 0.03") and so on, I know
it isn't the kernel spitting this out(unless kernels 2.2 print out
their version info first thing instead of near the end of the kernel
load.)

Is the recommendation to just upgrade to RedHat 5.2 from 5.1? I'm
always wary of redhat upgrades...I'm also not sure I remember how to
boot the system with a redhat boot disk(I'm sure there are docs,
right? :)
