Here's a guess, with some of the details a little hazy. Keyboards can
be operated in several different modes (I believe this has to do with
differences between PC/XT and PC/AT keyboard interfaces). Older versions
of Alpha firmware switched the keyboard to (I think) "mode 1", while
operating systems generally use (again, I think) "mode 2". The different
modes have different keyboard maps.
This has been changed in newer firmware, at least in part because
of problems with KVM switches (which is what I'm assuming the "Cybex
commander box" is). Unfortunately, this doesn't help you, as new versions
of UDB firmware are no longer being released.
You might try contacting Cybex to find out whether they have a firmware
upgrade for the switchbox.
