I was using a DEC based NIC with 21143-PC chipset under LX533/SRM.
It can be recognized by the "show device" command. But it was chosen to
run under 100M mode and got partitioned by the hub immediately because
the hub is a 10Mbps hub. So I changed it to 10M mode by "set ewa0_mode
Twisted-Pair" under SRM. The "linking" LED on the hub then switched
off with the "partition" LED. If I use a NIC with older chipset as
DEC 21040-AA, everything runs fine: the card was recognized by SRM,
and the LEDs are normal.
I have tried both cards under AlphaBIOS 5.60. Both cards worked
fine without the nasty problem of LED indications. Since I am sure that
the network cable and the hub are all without problem, would anyone please
give me a hint what is going on with SRM or the NICs? Thank you advance for
any suggestions you give.
PS. I tried both cards under Digital Unix 4.0D with "tu0". The
21040 worked fine too and the 21143 could not work at all either. Strange..
The 21040-AA is a D-Link DE-500CT and the 21143 is a Accton EN1207C-TX.
