Well if you want to go overboard, Microworks will sell you a
"convienince pak" for $99 that includes CD, floppy and some
speakers. But you can get floppy drives for $15-20, and a
CD-ROM drive is under $50... But really, all you need is a
floppy drive so you can do a network-based install, unless
you feel comfortable pre-loading boot image over network
interface to a partition on the HD...
The base system has AMD CPU (K6-2/300?), 32 Meg RAM,
a 56K modem (of some sort), video card (of some sort), all
the typical I/O, keyboard and mouse (no monitor) for $299.
AND, it includes a year of unlimited internet access, a
$240 value (!?) and a Corel office suite. I don't know about
WIn98 media, though.
At $299, it is a pretty good deal, and to quote many other failed
internet-based folks "we are losing money at this price, but
we'll make it up in volume!"
THe more I think about it, the mare this is an impossible deal,
I may get one for my mother-in-law, she wants to get on the internet,
and I can get her a 17" reffurbished monitor for about $150, at
$500 (or so) INCLUDING 12 months internet access, that is
a pretty good deal, IMHO...
Sorry for the off-topic rambling...
Ken
