Subject: RE: SoftWindows for Linux/Alpha???
Dear Mr. Farrer,
thank you for your interest in Insignia Solutions and this version of
SoftWindows.
To answer your questions:
The pricing of such a product would more likely be closer to our SoftWindows
Unix price ($499) rather than our Mac price ($199).
However, I don't think we would be willing to do this port for a particular
number of requests. Instead, we could do the work provided that someone was
willing to buy a particular number under contract. I suspect only Digital,
or rather Compaq, would be able to afford this. Alternatively, we might be
willing to sell source code to a third party to do the port, but again, I
suspect only Compaq would be interested or be able to afford it.
Unfortunately the demand for Digital Unix was not great enough to even
produce SoftWindows 95 back in 1997. Consequently we only had a Windows 3.1
product on Digital Unix, which is now discontinued. I suspect the demand is
even less now.
As for Linux/Alpha, I'm afraid your request is the first I have heard,
although I did receive another within a few hours of yours.
So, I would say this port is unlikely to happen.
My apologies,
Leigh Dworkin
