Installing RedHat linux

Hello everybody. I am looking for help to install RedHat linux 4.2
on an AlphaStation 200. I tried to install directly from CD-ROM using
SRM console:
>> boot dka400 -file kernels/avanti-s.gz -flags "root=/dev/scd0"

But when the file system is to be mounted I get a kernel Panic.
Among the error message lines something like this can be seen:

> Device not ready, make sure there is a disk inside
> .
> .
> Device not ready, make sure there is a disk inside
> .
> .
> .
> [MS-DOS fs] .......
>
> .
> .
> .
> unable to mount fs: Kernel Panic.......

As the CD-ROM disk is in the drive, why do I get the message "Device not
ready..."? Why does the aboot loader try to mount a MS-DOS file system?

After many unsuccessful attempts I installed RedHat linux using MILO with
floppy disks) and then I tried to install aboot to jump into linux from
SRM automatically. Reading the aboot documentation, it is said that I
only have to compile aboot to obtain bootlx, and to execute "swriteboot
/dev/sda bootlx". I do it but I get this error: "Disklabel is
corrupted". Then I execute the sdisklabel tool and after that I execute
swriteboot again, but this resets the disk geometry values.
And when rebooting the computer, the system cannot access the disk (SCSI).

When I created the partition table for this disk, these were the main
values:

BEGIN START ......
1 2 sda1 Linux native
n m sda2 Linux Swap

(with 255 heads, 63 sectors and 527 cylinders). Thus I reserve more
than 2Mbytes in the first partition for aboot (this was the documentation
said).

Please, could anyone help me? How can I install RedHat directly
from CD-ROM? How can I install aboot in the scsi disk to jump into linux
directly from SRM console?

Thanks in advance.

Luis Fernando Pardo
