sounds like your monitor doesn't sync right to the resolution that is
being sent by you alpha. you probably changed the option of booting th NT
boot manager and are now getting the unix like shell. you can remidy this
by just typing arc a few minutes after the "ghosts" appear. This will run
the arc firmware that you are used too seeing. from there you will have
to find the option that says "boot arc loader as default" or something
like that, it has been a long time since I remember seeing it.
hopefully that is the only setting you changed, or things could get uggly.
