missing depmod (modprobe)

OK, who took it?!?!

During the boot process (Colgate on a UDB) it gripes about not being able to
find depmod, which should be a symlink to /sbin/modprobe, right?

Well it (both actually) is missing, so is kerneld. RPM shows no modules*
package installed, and I can't find one (a modules-x.t-z.axp.rpm) at the ftp
site.

Any suggestions, preferably helpful and not too anatomically challenging?

Also, while I'm trolling, has anyone ported popclient v3.0 over to the axp? I
grabbed the SRPM and gave it a shot, but it didn't compile and it's beyond my
meager C-ability to interpret, much less fix the problem.

TIA

Al
