X problems in RH 4.0

I seem to be having some difficulties when running certain X apps in RH
4.0. Whenever I try to run xpaint, if the control-panel is running,
xpaint will fail immediately giving me some sort of BadLine or Polygon
error. I closed control-panel, and magically it worked. Is this related
to the colormaps?

Also, I cannot seem to run the display program from the ImageMagick
package. When I try to run it, it immediately dumps me back to the
console with the message:

Caught signal 4 (or something like that...I'm going from memory)

This has got me stumped...I never had problems with the ECOFF versions
in RH 3.0.3. Has anyone experienced similiar problems? Strangely
enough, all of my Tcl/Tk apps work fine. Please help...I can't really
use X for my favorite apps! I will install the old ECOFF version to see
if that works.
