What does the very first partition on hte UDB's 1Gb disk do, I fiddles with it
accidently and now none of the partition s on the diska re recognised,
including my root filesystem.

Have I clobbered some disk index (I had to use BSD style partitioning to get
it to work)? and if so is there any way to rescue my distribution?

I remember where the partitions were so the filesystems are presumably all
there it just appears to be unreadable
