Problem exiting X when PPP is running

I have an UDB at home, where I usually run X and start ppp-on. Anytime
when I exit X when the ppp connection is still up, the machine would hang
completely, or sometime if I am lucky the machine would drop line.
Anybody experiences the same problem? I use the latest TGA server from
gatekeeper, and RH 4.0.
