The behavior you're seeing suggests (b). I have access to 18 Alphas
all running Linux (RH of some sorts, but that doesn't really matter)
and I can assure you that they all run reliably. My home machine
crashed yesterday after an uptime of 30 days. It crashed because I
tried out a new X server. Of the above systems, 7 are 300MHz eb164,
so I don't think the problems of your system or eb164 related.
I'm not sure what hw problem your system might have. It doesn't
really look like a memory problem, but then, that's always a good
place to start. Maybe you could try running it with less RAM?The
2nd-level cache would be another candidate.
