Can anyone identify what this error message means:

mfx2: memory violation at pc=120001254 rp=1200117c (bad address=900840280)

I am running RH4.0, kernel 2.1.4, on a 300MHz EB164. The message occured
several times during a several hour period while running tar to archive
the contents of one drive as a file on another drive. Speciffically, is
it likely that this is a software problem or is it possibly a memory
hardware problem. Thanks in advance for any help.
