Yes, I had the same problem with the kernel 2.1.7. I don't know
what causes it, but I certainly didn't have it in previous
kernels.

You have hit the nail fully on the head: this indeed is
a problem that causes the error message. And even altering
a minute detail results in not causing this problem any
more. I'd guess it is a GCC bug.

I thought I'd just let you know my results: fully as yours.
