Howcum? Does the compiler spit out some messages. FYI, I've been able compile
everything from 1.3.89 on up out of the box on my UDB. Current version is
2.0.10

Don't expect netscape per se, but Richard Henderson's elfball.tar.gz is a
snapshot of a working elf system (e.g., your basic utilities)
ftp atheist.tamu.edu/pub/richard/linux/axp

You know what that 340 Mb disk is good for? Windows NT. I put externals on my
puppy very early on. . .
