kernels before Linux-pre2.0.4 had a bug in the lseek system call which
limits fdisk to <2GB disks. get a 2.0.0 kernel or newer and fdisk
will work fine...

the unaligned trap is only a cosmetic problem and is fixed e.g. in
ftp://ftp.azstarnet.com/pub/linux/axp/sys/axp-diffs-2.0.7.gz
