I didn't get the efs2dump to work either. It appeared to only try and
backup the top level directory of the file system. The restore program
didn't recognize the tape.

I back up two ways. I bought another 1 GB disk (at $280, it was much cheaper
than any tape of decent capacity). I do a disk to disk partition copy and
then modify the /etc/fstab file on the copy.

I also had the good fortune to receive an Archive Python DAT for free.
I have just gotten it working reliably (so far) under multiuser mode.
I had to upgrade to 1.3.62 before copies to/from the tape worked without
hangs. I also had to turn on the OPTION_DISCONNECT in the NCR SCSI driver.
I then can use tar to backup the drive to tape.
