As much as I hate to say this: Linux is currently not well suited as
an NFS server. This *may* change really soon, but as of now, Linux
NFS performance is much worse than that of other Unices running on the
same hardware. Notice that this isn't an Alpha problem as the same is
true for the x86 (actually, Alpha performance and the large page size
helps to mask some of the inefficiencies). It *may* still be a good
idea to go with Linux if performance isn't essential right now or you
can afford to wait a few weeks, but a caveat is in place nevertheless.
