I'm getting this strange condition on my AlphaStation 250, which has two
de4x5 Ethernet interfaces, one PCI (eth0) and one built-in (eth1). eth1
works peachy keen. eth0 is recognized on boot and ifconfig'ed just fine,
but I never hear boo through it. The most obvious clue that I see is that
the de4x5 driver is trying to attach eth0 to interrupt 9, where the
AlphaStation 250 sound card is apparently already squatting. In this
scenario, I don't actually have sound support compiled into the kernel
(1.3.57 + Alpha & TGA patches).
1st question: has anyone already dealt with this successfully?
So, I'm thinking perhaps I need to compile in a driver for the sound
card, so that the interrupt will be allocated by it, and the PCI de4x5
will then go squat on a different interrupt. It isn't 100% clear to me,
however, what particular incantation I should configure for the 250's
sound card. It has an OPL YMF262-M, so I'm choosing OPL 2/3 support, and
it has a Crystal CS4231A-KL, so I'm choosing Microsoft Sound System
support. However upon trying that, the system hangs during kernel boot
-- apparently upon trying to probe the sound device:
Sound initialization started
snd24 <MS Sound System (CS4231A)>
and then an eerie quiet.
2nd question: has anyone already dealt with this successfully?
